This past weekend, Daniele and I celebrated ten years of marriage by spending the weekend, sans children, in the happiest place on Earth. (Of course, one could argue that a weekend without children could make anywhere the happiest place on Earth, but I digress.) We spent the weekend at the lovely Dolphin hotel within Walt Disney World, tooling around Epcot and the Magic Kingdom, and basically having the extended honeymoon we didn’t have after we first got married.
The first day we were there, we visited Epcot, where Daniele, out of the goodness of her soul, went on a ride that made her nauseous, mainly because I was so excited to check it out. Needless to say, we didn’t go on it again. We also spent quite a bit of time in the Epcot World Showcase, and even went on a couple of rides there, the worst of which was Maelstrom. We cannot recommend it.
Before leaving Epcot for the evening, we purchased a couple of engraved champagne flutes and took them with us back to the hotel, where we filled them with the contents of a bottle of champagne that we had saved from our wedding day. I can honestly say that ten years of sitting in our dusty pantry made that champagne taste better than I remember. I think it aged wonderfully, just like us.
The next day, it was off to the Magic Kingdom, where we dashed like lunatics from one attraction to another, pausing just long enough to shovel the occasional meal into our mouths. The Disney Fastpass was a godsend, as we didn’t have to spend a bunch of time waiting in line for each ride.
On the last day, Daniele made a heroic dash across Epcot to make a couple of last-minute purchases while I waited with sore feet (don’t bring shoes you aren’t used to wearing to Disney World. I speak from bitter experience) back at the hotel. A quick six hours in a plane, and we were back home to pick up the kids.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Miesem vacation without photos, and there are quite a few in the gallery.
Here’s to another ten plus years of wedded bliss!
