Stevie and football!

Stevie did get the transfer to the closer and better school that is less than a mile from us- huzzah! One thing I’m sad about though is that he’ll be taken away from his chums with whom he has gone to school since kindergarten.

Both Yvonne and Stevie have internet access from 7-9 at night. Sunday night at 7:10 Stevie came bounding out of his room (something to behold) to inform us that his old friend Chris Wong (who has been transferred out of district since 6th grade and will also be going to this better high school) is starting conditioning camp for football at this school. Stevie WANTS TO PLAY FOOTBALL. I’ve been doing my web searches and such and haven’t been able to find ANY info on football at the school, aside from the well-known fact that this school is the best in the district for athletics. So Chris was planning on starting the camp Monday morning at 6am, it was 7:10 on Sunday night, Stevie was jazzed, so I told him to set his alarm and go in the morning! (The school is obviously in walking distance.) Stevie complained that he has no good pairs of shorts (he always wears black jeans), no tennies (he gave his only pair away last summer because he only wears black boots), and he’s not registered for the program… I told him to wear his boots and jeans and show up and promise that anything that’s not done on Monday morning will be done by Tuesday morning.

Well, he did it. (BEAMING with pride!!) He came home with a complete list of everything he was going to need by the next day, including a pair of football cleats, running shoes, shorts, T-shirts (all certain colors), protein drink stuff, a sports drink stuff, a physical, and a haircut. Aside from the physical and haircut, we got it all done yesterday. He is not in the greatest shape- he does have some fat on him, but he’s mostly just a BIG person. He’s very motivated now to lose his fat and gain more muscle. Teeheee!!!

He is a big boy. He’s 14 years old. He’s 6′2″ and 250 pounds, and as of yesterday, is in a size FIFTEEN shoe. His father is between 6′3″ and 6′5″ (I never measured him and his mother can exaggerate) and wears a size 13 shoe, so we’ve been braced for big feet… but dear lord!! I told Stevie that at this rate, we’ll spend so much money on his shoes that we’ll end up homeless, but at least we can use his shoeboxes for shelter.

So there’s my big brag… Stevie is suddenly very motivated to do something big and athletic, and I am PROUD PROUD PROUD!!! His dad has the football player build and loved football when he was a kid, but due to a hip problem when he was 13, he was never allowed to play in high school. His dad is SO proud now of what Stevie is doing. >sniff<>sniff<
